The 2020 Peace Summit

Humanitarian Affairs Asia is organising the 2nd Peace Summit of Emerging Leaders. The summit aims to gather young leaders from different parts of the world to give them a new perspective and a broader understanding on peace building.

The summit features keynote speakers, networking sessions and interactive workshops to prepare and empower young leaders to be a champion of peace.

The summit aims to:

  • Encourage delegates to creatively think about practical ways to affect positive change within their communities through social projects.
  • Promote peace and non-violence as a form of effective diplomacy among emerging global leaders.
  • Encourage delegates to think about social issues that the global community faces today, and to apply critical thinking skills on solutions to these challenges.
  • Provide access to unique educational opportunities in which delegates can learn knowledge in peacebuilding.

Pre-requisites for delegates:

  • Applicants should be between the ages of 17-35 years old.
  • They should be passionate about social change, global issues and current affairs.
  • A self-initiated 1-year opportunity to promote peace as a Humanitarian Affairs Peace Ambassador.

Interested students could write in to us for ideas on self-funding to support their participation at the summit. The 2020 Peace Summit of Emerging Leaders is at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand from February 5 to 7, 2020.

Topic : Communities Experiences and Perceptions of the Impacts of Transportation Infrastructure Development on Natural Capital: A Rapid Evidence Assessment of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) in Kenya
 
 
Dr. Nyumba is a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Nairobi's Institute for Climate Chane and Adaptation (ICCA) and the African Conservation Centre (ACC) for the Development Corridors Partnership (DCP) Project: A global research project that aims to generate decision -relevant evidence related to challenges facing development corridor processes in East Africa and feed it into key decision making processes to improve the sustainable development outcomes of investments in development corridors.
 
Dr. Nyumba is interested in conservation and development interventions, human well-being and poverty alleviation, particularly in sub- Saharan Africa. He is keen to promote science and applied research with practical relevance to biodiversity conservation and development policy within a multi-disciplinary framework.

The University of Nairobi wishes to inform all students from the above colleges who qualified for the award of various degrees and diplomas at the end of last academic year (2018/2019) and members of the public, that the 62nd Graduation Ceremony will be held on Friday, December 20, 2019 commencing at 8.00 a.m. at the Chancellor’s Court next to Central Catering Unit, Main Campus.  The following is pertinent information:

CLEARANCE OF FEES AND ORDER OF NAMES:

Only those who will have completed paying the fees due to the University by Wednesday, November 20, 2019 will be allowed to graduate.  ALL graduands are advised to confirm the spelling and order of their names with their respective Deans/Directors before this date.

GRADUATION/CONVOCATION FEE

Each graduand will be required to obtain a clearance certificate from the relevant College Registrar upon clearance with the respective Department/Faculty/Institute/School/Centre, Library, Halls of Residence, Games Department, Finance and pay a compulsory Graduation/Convocation fee of Kshs. 1,000/=.

HIRE OR PURCHASE OF ACADEMIC ATTIRE

The academic attire will be available for hire between Monday, December 9, 2019 to Thursday,  December 19, 2019 from the respective College Registrars for Diploma, Bachelors, PGD and Masters graduands and from the Deputy Registrar, Central Examinations Centre for PhD graduands at a non-refundable fee of Kshs. 4,000/= per set.  Those intending to purchase the academic attire should contact the Deputy Registrar, Central Examinations Centre, Chiromo Campus for details.  The hired academic attire must be returned to the respective offices by Friday, January 10, 2020 to avoid being surcharged.

REHEARSAL

The rehearsal is an integral part of the Graduation Ceremony.  All Graduands intending to participate in the ceremony must attend the rehearsal on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 10.00 a.m. at the Chancellor’s Court next to the Central Catering Unit, Main Campus.

 

INVITATION

  1. While hiring or purchasing the Academic Dress, each graduand will be issued with two invitation cards for two guests.  Persons without invitation cards will not be allowed   into the Chancellor’s Court on the Graduation Day. 

            Children are not allowed.

Graduands and invited guests are advised to arrive early on the Graduation day and be seated by 7.00 a.m.
